Classical Thursday

...a day late

Since we're nearing Halloween, I've chosen slightly spooooooky music again. GASP!

Here we have movie music from Alien 3, one of my favorite horror movies (yeah, I know that I'm in the minority).

The score is by the talented Elliot Goldenthal. Please enjoy!

Many happy returns... TO ME

It's party time! Woo! My birthday! Run to the hills! Raise da proverbial roof!

Also two announcements: I am no longer feeling sorry for myself. Yesterday, on the bus, I saw a girl my age who would otherwise look completely normal if not gorgeous except for the cancerous growth the size of an apple sticking out of her face. Yeah so I should really just shut up and man up.

Second announcement: I'm going to be asking my friend Andre if he'd like to be an official contributor to this blog. He's working on writings and ideas for the tale of Corbin. I haven't asked him yet, so stay tuned.

Woe is me

ARGH!

I have to work on Halloween and I have to cancel birthday dinners 'cause I've gotta work overtime to get things done.

You can pity me, if you like, but keep in mind that my life is pretty sweet compared with the plight of a Darfur war orphan.

Neat fact about Cleopatra

The Great Pyramid of Giza was finished around 2560 BC. Cleopatra VII Philopator (i.e. the one that's just called Cleopatra) was born in 69 BC. The Apollo program accomplished its goal of landing on the moon in 1969.

In other words, Cleopatra lived closer to the moon landings than to the construction of the Great Pyramid, by a margin of hundreds of years.

Wow.

For once...

...this season isn't all that it usually promises. For the first time in my life, I will be so relieved once October is over and done with.

For those not in the "know", Halloween is bigger than Christmas for me. It doesn't always fit up to my expectations, but I love the weather, decorations, food and general atmosphere. My birthday is a few days before. I get to dress up like a freak and it is socially acceptible. I get to decorate my house and my cubicle at work with skulls, shrunken heads and shrieking goblins.

I don't even have a costume this year.

The biggest culprit is the fact that I am losing two relatives, my Uncle John and my Grandpa Neil, within the same two weeks. That is sad on it's own, but there's a massive pile of drama involved with the family. I just can't deal with this right now.

It's plain awful.

Also, I have to work on Halloween. This is the final big rush to get things done at work for the new corporate website.

So yeah. Bleh. Once November comes, I will be able to move on and get back to my creative projects... hopefully...

no one reads my blog

I checked the stats... hardly any hits (most of them are my own). BOO HOO.

October 21, 2010

This is turning out to be a very dark october

But not in a good way...

I may lose two relatives.

The prospect of death puts things into perspective. Especially in the Fall.

Corbin :: Inspiring images

I am posting these images for my friend Andre with the hope that he may be inspired by them. However, I suppose that any of you can be inspired by them as well, since Hallowe'en is right around the corner.

These are just a few ingredients that I'd like to add to this project's recipe. Click on an image to enlarge.

Do you ever feel like you're being watched?

Rainy October - Time of Lovecraft!

A Garden
By H. P. Lovecraft

There’s an ancient, ancient garden that I see sometimes in dreams,
Where the very Maytime sunlight plays and glows with spectral gleams;
Where the gaudy-tinted blossoms seem to wither into grey,
And the crumbling walls and pillars waken thoughts of yesterday.
There are vines in nooks and crannies, and there’s moss about the pool,
And the tangled weedy thicket chokes the arbour dark and cool:
In the silent sunken pathways springs an herbage sparse and spare,
Where the musty scent of dead things dulls the fragrance of the air.
There is not a living creature in the lonely space around,
And the hedge-encompass’d quiet never echoes to a sound.
As I walk, and wait, and listen, I will often seek to find
When it was I knew that garden in an age long left behind;
I will oft conjure a vision of a day that is no more,
As I gaze upon the grey, grey scenes I feel I knew before.
Then a sadness settles o’er me, and a tremor seems to start:
For I know the flow’rs are shrivell’d hopes—the garden is my heart!

YAAAAAWWWWN So tired

Why am I posting on my blog right now while sitting in my cubicle? Because I finished my work! WHOOOOO! Well, that's not entirely true. One last thing to change and then I'm outta here! Huzzah!

By the way, does anyone know who this gorgeous doll is? I'd like to know, and add her as a Retro Crush.

Oh well. In the meantime, here's a sketch of a vampire that I did this morning. Real quick, so please pay no attention to the lack of effort the further down I got from his head. HA HA.

My effort is to create a suitable classic Nosferatu style monster, who's existence is a deliberate mockery of the Twilight "undead of convenience".

Retro Crush

Marie-Pierre and Cathy Castel

These twins are famous for their roles in the ero-horror films by Jean Rollin. I don't know much about them, other than they made these films in the late 60s into the 70s.

Not much to say right now. I will be more verbose at a later point. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures!

Yeah he did a lot of softcore sleaze, but the strange thing about his movies is that they're exquisitely filmed. Some like to imagine that if he had access to greater funds he would have been much more highbrow. Or perhaps not. Who knows?

What I do know is that these twins made their mark in his vampire stories.

I haven't seen them, but there are two that I'm eager to get my hands on: Requiem for a Vampire, Le Vampire Nue and Le Frisson des Vampires. Despite the Hammer Films esque vampire lesbianism that is strongly hinted, these movies have some surprisingly beautiful cinematography.

Requiem for a Vampire is about two young woman who frantically try to escape a castle over-ruled by a hoard of vampires. For some reason, they dress up as clowns in one part. I think that they're criminals on the run from the police or the mob.

Inter-sped throughout the pics of these lovely ladies will be images from the films.

Sorry for being lazy

I just haven't had the time to scan any of my meeting minutes over the past few weeks. It's just been INSANE over here.

So here we go! Lots of scans. Most of these are very quick and rough.

First of all, some images for The Tale of Corbin:

I drew this on the bus and I like to imagine that it offended the corpulent lady sitting next to me. I felt a bit smothered by not only her size, but her matronly glare. Skeleton Pope and two martyrs.

Three evil sisters. Redhead, blonde then brunette (in that order). Not too sure how they work into the story yet, but they definitely hint at the Brides of Dracula. They will have a role to play in a very Hammer Films-esque way.

Just some beasties. What's scarier than a 12 foot tall bear with opposable thumbs and armor?

And now for some extra sketches for a commission for my buddy Chuck: a sexy cowgirl.
